Product Reviews Strap For Posture And Again Ache – How To Use A Yoga Strap | Intelligent Yoga

This video shows you a trick how to reduce back pain and improve posture after a long day of sitting at the desk. It’s pretty straightforward.

See more at:

There are three main reasons people use our “Clever Yoga” Yoga straps. The first is actually for Yogic purposes. If you have trouble holding a yoga pose or have trouble “connecting” the appropriate limbs, our Yoga Strap will aid you greatly. The second most common use is just to increase your flexibility. For example, if you currently can’t touch your finger to your toes, use our Yoga Strap to bridge the gap. The third use is probably the most important – for stretch and physical rehabilitation.

This 1 hour intermediate yoga class will show you 20 ways to use your yoga strap in a yoga class. Yoga props like the yoga strap allow you to receive the benefit of the yoga pose without overextending yourselves, thus experiencing greater ease and stability and more connection with your breath in the pose. And yet, a lot of times people hold back from using props such as yoga straps. Perhaps people feel like they are cheating in their yoga practice if they use a prop. It is important to look at the life connection here, because it may just be that you are less likely to receive support in other areas in your life as well, if you are not willing to take it on your yoga mat. I have found yoga props, such as the yoga strap to be another tool to explore my creative expression as yoga teacher and yoga student. Today you will explore the yoga strap as a tool to soften edges both on and off your yoga mat.

In this yoga class with a strap you will learn to use the strap in these 20 yoga poses: Supta Padangusthasana/Hand to Big Toe Pose, Setu Bandhasana/Bridge Pose, Uttihita Chaturanga Dandasana/Plank Pose, Ardha Navāsana/Boat Pose, Chest and Shoulder Opener, Prasarita Padottanasana/Wide Legged Standing Forward Fold, Back-pack set up, Trikonasana/Triangle Pose, Natarajasana/Dancer, Hasta Padangustasana/Standing Hand to Big Toe Pose, Vṛkṣāsana/Tree Pose, Parsvakonasana/Side Angle Pose, Sasankasana/Rabbit, Makarasana/Dolphin, Sarvāṅgāsana/Shoulderstand, Bhujangasana/Cobra, Ardha Dhanurasana/Half Bow Pose, Eka Pada Raja Kapotasana/King Pigeon , Janu Sirsasana/Head Beyond Knee Pose, Paschimottanasana/Seated Forward Fold, Gomukhasana/Cow’s Face, and Supta Baddha Konasana/Reclined Bound Angle.

Props Needed: 8 or 10 foot yoga strap

See alternate version for tying a Yoga Belt Jacket on the YouTube video "Easy Ways to Improve Posture | SRMD Yoga" which does not involve looping the strap around the neck, but requires a longer strap. 🙂

I've never been here before. But I love this video, it's plain simple and it works, and I like the name clever yoga. This video seems clever… Subscribed excited to see what's next!

there's nothing clever about showing a technique/way of using a prop that will injure people's neck… the right way to do it is the Iyengar way:
please consider removing this video before people get seriously injured

Do NOT do this!! This will definitely cause neck issues as it is pulling your neck forward. This is completely incorrect!! Please remove this video to avoid injuries.

Lots of complaints about neck pulling and such…but not a lot of linking to the other way of doing it. Found one here:

As for adding some constructive feedback, I've done it this way just by fiddling (it's kind of like putting on a make-shift vest harness, stick your arms through the loops, or follow her method with an un-looped strap). It definitely made things line up and sort of compress into place, like you do when straightening your posture anyway.

I definitely recommend trying both ways, and then decide which one works better for your body.

May I add…what does a "yoga belt" cost? It's a belt dude. Put "yoga" in front of it and boom! You just overpaid.

Just by looking at how the strap is positioned I can see this will strain my neck. I wouldn't recommend

    October 17, 2021 at 8:32 pm

Improper. Pulling your neck forward. Go to,other site where it is demonstrated correctly bu pulling the shoulders back. Not your neck forward. Elkhart yoga site the correct way.

    October 17, 2021 at 9:31 pm

This is NOT a good way to do this!!! It does straighten you back but puts much pressure on your neck!!
You can wear it like a figure-of-eight to simulate the product below. Same benefits, no harm to your neck!

Remove this video, this will spoil the neck. There is another; correct way of using the strap; this is not it.

This posture treatment solution “doso shocking guide” (Google it) absolutely helps correct poor posture. Over the years, I have seemed to be slumping my shoulders and having lots of pain, well this appears to be keeping them back and my pain is a lot less. Really makes me hold healthy posture that is assisting with back issues.

Hi Melissa, this class was interesting. Some of the poses even with the strap were too advanced for me – dancers and pigeon poses – whereas others I didn't need the strap at all. I like the way you give permission to use the strap as an aid rather than a cheats tool, it encourages responsible practice especially when doing it online like this at home. I feel like I need to do another class though after this one, as the class was more of a 'how to' / educational rather than a practice in itself if that makes sense. However, I'm glad I've done it as it makes me feel like a more responsible and informed practicer, especially given that I'm a newbie to yoga. Thank you xo

Often, you say to use a belt from your bathrobe, which is what I did so I couldn't do some of the poses. Great class, just mention that you need an actual yoga strap for this class.

How long of a strap are you using? I have a 6ft strap and find it too shirt to use for more extended binds and holds like boat pose.

Nice class, I started last night but was tired so I finished when I woke up, but started the class over. 🙂 I love using a strap, but I forgot it when I left my horrible ex's house…Anyways I made a strap w a sheet and it worked fine. Haha nothing better than yoga like this practice! I loved the "backpack". Thank you, Melissa 🙂

this is the worst form of bound side angle I have ever seen!! Your torso is completely falling forward and down instead of having your top ribs facing sky and bottom shoulder aligned with knee.
