Lisa Gade reviews the 4th generation Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon, released in 2016. This is Lenovo’s thinnest and lightest business Ultrabook with a 14” display and Intel Skylake 6th gen Core i5 and Core i7 dual core CPUs.

** Read our written review here:

The ThinkPad X1 Carbon 4th gen is only available with non-touch displays, but the good news is that these are the best quality X1 Carbon display yet, available in FHD and QHD resolutions— both are matte, have 300 nits brightness and full SRGB coverage. The laptop weighs 2.6 lbs. (1.2 kg) and is 0.65” (16.5mm) thick. It has a carbon fiber and glass fiber casing and a magnesium roll cage inside.

The laptop is available with 8 or 16 gigs of RAM and your choice of SATA-3 or PCIe NVMe M.2 SSDs. It has a backlit keyboard, TrackPoint and an ample array of ports including USB 3.0, HDMI, mini DisplayPort, Ethernet via included dongle adapter, an SD card slot, option WiGig, optional 4G LTE with a SIM card slot and a OneLink+ expansion port. Pricing starts around ,200 for the Core i5 with full HD Display, 8 gigs of RAM and a 256 gig SSD.

Nice review. You did mention the fan is not very noisy , and I find that to be true as long as you keep the fan vents clean..

The person complaining about fan noise should look into why.. Dust inside?

    Great laptop!

Hey Lisa, I am happy to report that I bought this unit maxed out on specs when you did the review. I have had zero issues with it, and at a construction site in NYC I dropped a hammer directly on top of the keyboard from about 4 feet, the only damaged was the pins in some keys bend and it was a super easy fixed. I am still shocked at how durable this thing is and super quick.

Only negative thing to say about is that the screen has a very small crack on the middle of the frame and this looks to be a designed issue but I almost never noticed.

Got the x1c4(core i7 6th gen, 16gb ram, 512gb ssd) few days ago. It is still much a viable solution nowadays and works just great.

    Thanks for the great review!

Would you buy a X1 Carbon CORE i7-4600U 4th gen in 2019 for 625€ ($700 USD)? It comes from a company that moved to newer laptops; no scratches, dents or marks on the keyboard.
