Yoga Upload with Maris Aylward – Welcome to Part 1 of our VINYASA ESSENTIALS TUTORIAL SERIES! Learn how to do Downward Facing Dog (Adho Mukha Svanasana) properly. This is a Yoga Pose Tutorial for both beginners and intermediate students. The first section is about the basic shape of the pose and common struggles for beginners. In the second section, we learn refinements, some joint actions, and several ways to improve Downward Dog for intermediate yoga practitioners. Apply these techniques to feel better and stay safe in this common (yet complex) yoga pose. 🙂

The next videos will tackle the rest of the poses in the “vinyasa” sequence – Plank Pose, Chaturanga, Upward Facing Dog and Cobra. In the last video, we will put all these elements together and learn different vinyasa variations.

    Exactly what i was looking for. I have been suffering from bursitis for 5 years now and I think it came from down dog. Now the inflammation is gone and I was super careful to start my practice again to avoid bringing a shoulder inflammation back but with the right alignment I hope it's safe and not recurring. Thanks for this precisely tips I was looking for how to turn biceps, triceps and elbows with the right rotation.

    Thank you Maris for such a great tutorial! Best Downward dog tutorial of all that I have watched! Two follow-up questions: Without a mirror, how do you know your neck is relaxed and aligned with the rest of the spine. Is there a spot to look at? Second, about shoulder engagement, i am practicing with scapular protraction and elevation, not elevated all the way to the ears but slight elevation and engaged lats. I heard so many teachers talk about pulling the shoulder back to depression, but I found it disconnects the energy from the hands. any thoughts on that?
